Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a thousands of years old practice that involves the insertion of hair-fine, sterile, solid, stainless steel needles into specific points on the body. Needles may be placed on the face, arms, legs, abdomen back and ears depending on your specific complaint(s). The points are chosen based on an indepth health history, as well as information gathered by looking at the tongue, feeling the pulse and palpating the abdomen.
Chinese Herbs
Chinese Herbal medicine provides the medical theory on which acupuncture is based. Instead of using needles , Chinese herbal medicine uses mostly plant products, as well as some animal or mineral products, to create balance in the body. Prescriptions, which are taken internally, are based on classic herbal formulas spcifically designed for each patient's particular imbalance. One of the benefits of Chinese herbal medicine is its versatility. Prescriptions can be adjusted, herbs added or subtracted, so that each formula is exactly right for each patient, rather than just for their condition. This assures that there are no side effects.
Private Yoga
One-on-one private yoga sessions can be done at your convenience and each session is tailor made to suit your needs. Whether you are a beginner and would like to get some classes under your belt, an athlete looking to improve your sports performance, or you have a specific health challenge that requires extra guidance, this is a great option. Private sessions are also beneficial to seasoned practitioners who are looking for some one-on-one attention with more challenging poses. We can accomdate any need, even students in wheelchairs. Yoga is exercise not only for the body, but for the mind and spirit as well.
Moxibustion
Moxibustion, or the burning of Moxa (Mugwort, Artemesia vulgaris), is performed on or over the body to warm an area and to improve Qi and Blood circulation. Moxa is very effective with many pain conditions, such as acute injuries, like sprains, strains and tissue tears, chronic pain conditions as well as menstural pain. Reduction in pain, swelling and bruising with increased range of motion after Moxibustion are typical. Moxa is also effective after surgery to improve the healing and appearance of scars and surrounding tissue, as well as to reduce pain and swelling.
Cupping and Gua Sha
Cupping and Gua Sha are two techniques that are commonly used with pain and discomfort. Gua Sha uses a ceramic spoon (like what you use when eating wonton soup) and scrapes the muscles to release the underlying tension; it is like getting a very deep massage very quickly. Cupping is a little gentler and can be used not only for muscle tension, but also for respiratory conditions, like bronchitis or asthma, or gastrointestional conditions, like bloating, constipation or IBS. Both Cupping and Gua Sha leave a mark on the skin that can last for 3-7 days, but the benefits are typically felt immediately.
